What are you Eating?

For the past couple of years I have had my Food and Nutrition students keep a diary or food log of what they ate for an entire week. I asked that they not change their eating habits but just log what they were eating. They were to write down every drink including water, food item, and even gum. After they were finished with their week long food diary I had them bring it in and we analyzed calories, food groups, fat grams, protein, and carbohydrates. This enabled students to figure out what areas they needed to improve on. I challenge you to keep a food diary for an entire week and then evaluate your eating habits. To figure out how many servings of each food group you should be getting you can go to this website: http://www.mypyramid.gov/. There you will have to enter in some information about yourself but nothing to personal. Another tool you can use in your journey is a website called Calorie King, http://www.calorieking.com/. Calorie king allows you to type in the food you have been eating and show you nutritional information. After you participate in this activity please comment on the following: What did you learn about your eating habits? How would you like to change? How did you feel about your overall weeklong diet?

Have fun!
